Kara Colvin - BIO

Music has been a part of Kara's life for as long as she can remember. She is a vocalist and multi-instrumentalist who plays violin, guitar, piano, and ukulele. Kara began writing songs at the age of five, started playing violin at six, and began singing at nine. Around the same time, she taught herself guitar and piano, later adding ukulele at fourteen. She has been performing professionally as both a singer and musician since the age of seventeen.

Kara graduated from both Bak Middle School of the Arts and Alexander W. Dreyfoos School of the Arts in South Florida as a Strings major before becoming the first student at her college to pursue a minor in Performing Arts. Alongside her passion for music, Kara has always loved teaching. As a child, she often pretended to teach her stuffed animals, and that passion has grown into a rewarding career. She has taught piano, violin, and voice lessons and currently specializes in teaching violin and voice. In addition to private instruction, Kara also served as both a tutor and teaching assistant during college.

My Approach to Teaching

Kara's teaching style is gentle, patient, and student-centered. She believes that building strong technique is important, but also that learning songs students genuinely enjoy is essential for fostering a lifelong love of music. By balancing technical development with each student's personal interests, Kara helps students stay engaged, discover their unique musical voice, and grow with confidence.
